Not So Idiot Box

Yes, this is an era of Netflix and Amazon Prime video. According to my usage, I’ve found the best convenience of video streaming across devices, is hands down, Netflix. Otherwise, the pricing model of Amazon, prime membership for both the shopping site as well as video services is one time fee per year (Indian Audiences). And that’s so cool, I might stop using Netflix for this reason. Though, Indian version of Netflix doesn’t have even 10% of its American counterpart, it still has enough content to last forever of solitude. Plus, Netflix shows are all there.

Now, why such a title of this page? Actually, I was in anonymity for a whole 12 months. In those months, I introduced myself to wonderful world of some great television. Yes, I know you readers have already guessed my list. But still, I will consolidate.

I know modern T.V viewing is a lot different from the idiot box. It’s not an idiot-box anymore. Since, televisions are now becoming smart and coming with app stores and web-browsers built-in. Oh wow! Much astonishment. Now, coming to my list

First mention by any means should be ‘Breaking Bad‘. This great, intense show about an underachiever and genius in all aspect of chemistry, Walter White is diagnosed with inoperable lung cancer. So he makes peace with his soon to arrive end but he has some unfinished business of providing for his family. He takes on the path of crime along with his partner Jesse Pinkman. And the scenes when he confronts enemies, allies etc, are just pure adrenaline pumping. Much is said, I’ll stick to no-spoiler-rule.

Second pick is ‘Game Of Thrones‘. Watching this, made me forget all other fantasy lands. There’s only one motto, “Valar Morghulis, Valar Dohaeris”. All men must die, all men must serve. The thirst for Iron Throne along with the fear of supernatural elements makes this an amazing treat. It’s very tough to write about this show without blabbering out any spoilers. Fights are great. Each episode is more than a single movie. And the dedication in story telling is just pure mind-blowing. George R.R Martin was born to write these novels and it always deserved its own show. Each episode connects with the mind. Every character is strong. Magical elements make this a pure bliss. Enough now.

My third pick is ‘Community‘. The best comedy that was on T.V.  This shows stars Joel McHale as Jeff Winger, a great successful lawyer. But it’s discovered that his degree ‘was-less-than-legitimate’. He attends ‘Greendale Community College’ to complete his degree. But he meets and makes friends with a group of misfits. And what unfolds is total comical roller-coaster ride. This series is now complete with six seasons. A reunion movie is planned too. Must watch. #sixseasonsandamovie

My fourth pick is ‘Narcos‘. This Netflix show certainly broke all the bounds of acting. Wagner Moura’s acting skills are way too great. He made me forget that he isn’t native ‘Spanish’ speaker. The rise of drug cartel in Columbia and Pablo’s rise and fall are depicted with great art. There’s a word of caution. There are two seasons, ten episodes each. Make sure you have 20 hours of spare time. Because, you will not leave your couch.

My fifth pick is ‘Death Note’. This is an anime that should be watched by everyone. It shows what an alert mind can do. The lust for power destroys a person. Smart and highly intelligent, Yagami finds a supernatural notebook of death. Imagine this to be a death wish-list and it coming true. What follows is finding and tracing Yagami. ‘L’, world famous detective is the last resort to find this maniac. This cat and mouse chase is presented intelligently. This franchisee is getting bigger and bigger. Netfllix is working on its hollywood adaptation. And I will, warn again. Have 37 hours to spare before you indulge in this ride. I am not including any trailer for this one. It has to be seen with suspense. For others, hover on their names.

I will keep updating this list.
